About us

A family-run Tunisian travel company, not a booking platform

Maja Travel & Tours is based in Tunis and runs private airport transfers and excursions across the whole country — from Carthage and Sidi Bou Said to Kairouan, El Jem, Djerba and the Sahara. When you write to us, you reach the people who actually drive you.

Our story

It started in 2016 with one car and a simple frustration: friends arriving at Tunis-Carthage were being quoted a different price every time, in a queue, after a long flight. Majdi began meeting them himself with a name sign and a price agreed in advance — and word travelled.

Ten years later we are a small team of drivers and coordinators covering every Tunisian airport — Tunis-Carthage, Enfidha-Hammamet, Monastir and Djerba — with the same rule we started with: the price you are told is the price you pay.

We stayed deliberately small. You will often be driven by the same person who answered your message, and we would rather turn a booking down than send you with someone we do not know.

Travel tips

Practical advice for visiting Tunisia

The things we tell our own guests in the car — honest, local and useful before you land.

Money

The Tunisian dinar cannot legally leave the country, so change only what you need. Cards work in hotels and big shops; markets and small cafés are cash only. Our drivers accept euros or dinars.

When to go

April–June and September–October give warm sea and comfortable Sahara days. July and August are excellent for the coast but very hot inland — start desert tours at 8 AM.

Distances are longer than they look

Tunis to Sousse is about 2 hours, Tunis to Douz around 6. Plan one big excursion per day and let us handle the driving.

Culture & dress

Tunisia is relaxed, but cover shoulders and knees in mosques and medinas. A little French or Arabic (“shukran”, “labès?”) opens every door.

Stay connected

Buy an Ooredoo or Orange SIM at the airport for a few dinars — WhatsApp is how everyone in Tunisia communicates, including your driver.

Airport arrivals

Ignore unofficial taxi touts in arrivals. Your Maja driver waits past customs with a name sign, and waiting is free for 60 minutes.

Tell us your dates — we do the rest

Send your flight number, hotel and travel dates on WhatsApp and you get a fixed quote back, usually within 30 minutes.
